School Council
At Great Oldbury Primary Academy, we value the importance of our children having a say in how and what they learn. We are empowering all children to make a positive change within the school and local community by developing their confidence and assertiveness in addressing what is important to them. As adults, if we are truly expecting children to be independent, respectful, and creative in their ideas, it is vital they take responsibility of their own learning.
To manage the valuable thoughts and ideas of every child, from Nursery to Year 2, we have elected several school council members within our Year 1 and 2 classes. Reception will join in summer term to assist in transition to KS1. Our representatives from each class are expected to gather thoughts and ideas of children in all classes regarding all aspects of their learning and communicating as a team about what is important to them. This ensures every child has a voice that is heard and teaches our youngest children in the school about the British Value of democracy. This is taught to the children as making decisions together, ensuring everyone has a voice and is listened to, and the importance of expressing our own opinions.
Our GOPA school council will become responsible for making change happen and will meet once a term to discuss the thoughts of children in the school.
