Wowzers Trousers Reception, we've made it to Friday!

Happy New Year and welcome back Reception! Well done for a fantastic first week back at school. You have been busy starting to learn your Phase 3 sounds in Phonics. We have learnt the sounds 'j' and 'v' and the tricky word 'he'. You had great fun reading and writing these sounds, especially writing the sound 'j' in jelly! We have started to learn our new story 'The Gingerbread Man' as part of our 'Once upon a time' topic this term. The children had a big surprise from the kitchen when all their gingerbread men had run off the baking tray and left a trail of flour footprints through the classroom! The children loved decorating their own gingerbread men and learning to retell the story. In Maths we have been learning all about the number 6. The children have 'wowed' us with finding lots of different ways to represent the number and find one more or less. The children had a fabulous end of the week today with celebration assembly this morning, a bit of Music with Mrs Hall and finished the day off with a very frosty forest school session on our lovely school field. What a brilliant start to the new term Reception - keep it up!

Happy weekend everyone! We will look forward to seeing you all back on Monday.

10th December 2021

Well done Reception for a super, fun filled, Christmassy week! We have loved engaging in lots of festive activities and the excitement for the Christmas holidays is building!  It was wonderful to see so many parents/carers at our Reception stay and play session on Wednesday – thank you for attending, it really means a lot to the children and staff to see you celebrating and valuing their learning and play. The children had great fun making their salt dough Christmas tree decorations and have been working hard to paint and decorate these carefully this week. Reception and Little Learners have been working hard to practise their Nativity, there has been some super singing and dance moves! We cannot wait to perform this to you all at the end of next week.

In Phonics this week we have learnt how to say, hear, write and recognise the sound l and the digraphs (2 letters, 1 sound) ll and ss. The children have practised writing these letters in their books, and using a range of mark making tools such as chalk, paint brushes in paint and pens on whiteboards. Some children have ‘wowed’ us with having a go at writing some simple words with these sounds in and everyone has listened very carefully to hear the sound in words as often digraphs come at the end of a word or sometimes in the middle of a word. We have also learnt the new tricky word to, we have to remember we can’t sound out this word, we just have to remember what it looks like and learn it by sight.

In Maths the children have been ‘wowing’ their teachers with all their number 1-5 facts that they can remember from this term! We have also had lots of fun exploring different measurement concepts, such as; length, height and weight. The children had great fun making Christmas paper chains and exploring who could make the longest or shortest paper chain. We have also explored the different heights of our friends in the class and compared Santa’s height to one of his little elves. The children have been practising building towers of presents and comparing their heights using ‘tallest’ and ‘shortest’. Reception have also explored the weight of different Christmas presents using balance scales to compare their weights. The children practised using the words ‘heaviest’ and ‘lightest’ to compare the weight of the different objects they had selected. Next week the children will be exploring capacity and will be using their prediction skills to guess which container will hold the most water.

In Talk 4 Writing we have been innovating (changing) the story ‘Dear Santa.’ Reception have loved getting into the festive spirit and changing the Christmas presents in the story to many of the exciting gifts they are wishing and hoping Santa will bring! The children have been practising changing the pictures on their story maps and retelling their changed story.

Well done Reception for another fabulous week! You all continue to ‘wow’ us daily and we are all so proud of you! Keep up the amazing work! Have a wonderful weekend, we hope you can enjoy some festive activities. We will see you next week for our final week of term and lots of Christmas fun – we’re almost there Reception!!!

3rd December 2021

Well done Reception for a fantastic week! We have loved starting to talk about Christmas and enjoying lots of Christmassy activities in the classroom. We had a very exciting visit from a cheeky Christmas Elf on Monday afternoon and every day he seems to be hiding somewhere new in our classroom. This has caused great excitement amongst Reception, but we must remember that the elf is keeping an eye on us all and making sure we’re always trying our best and making good choices at school every day. Remember team GOPA to Dream, Believe, Achieve every day!

In Phonics we have learnt how to say, hear, write and recognise the sounds b and f. We have also learnt the digraph (two letters, one sound) ff. The children have practised writing these letters in their books, chalking on the ground, on whiteboards and in glitter and sand. Some children have ‘wowed’ us with having a go at writing some simple words with these sounds in and everyone has listened carefully to hear the sound in words. We have also been recapping the tricky words we have learnt so far.

In Maths the children have continued their learning about the number 5. The children have explored all the different ways they can partition 5 between two groups. The children have been partitioning 5 using cubes and Numicon on a whole, part model and they have explored representing this on a tens frame too. Some children have been really challenging themselves to record the different number bonds that add up to 5, by recording their own addition number sentences or filling in the parts on an empty whole, part model. Great work everybody! Reception have finished the week with learning about patterns. The children have been copying a repeating pattern, continuing a pattern and also making their own colour or shape pattern. Next week we will start to explore the number 6 and all the different ways we can represent this number.

We have loved learning our new story called ‘Dear Santa’ in Talk 4 Writing. We are getting very excited by the thought of Santa visiting us on Christmas Eve. Reception have loved getting into the festive spirit and thinking about Father Christmas and their Christmas present wish lists!  The children have been practising retelling the story in their play or drawing their own story map to retell the letter to Santa. There has been some amazing Christmas role play going on in our ‘home corner’ with many visits from Santa and his Christmas elves!

Thank you for practising your child’s lines for their speaking part in the school Christmas performance. We are really proud of them for how hard they are trying to remember their words and sing the songs. We are loving hearing many renditions of ‘Rudolph the red nosed reindeer’ around school!! Please continue to practise your child’s line at home and encourage them to take their time and speak clearly and loudly. We will be continuing to practise our performance with Little Learners next week. Please remember to hand in your child’s named Nativity costume as soon as possible.

Due to recent technical difficulties with our school printer, you will have noticed that your child now has last weeks and this week’s homework. Please do not feel you have to complete both week’s worth of work over the weekend, please just choose a few pieces to explore and work your way through the activities at your child’s pace over the next couple of weeks. Please remember you can also share ‘WOW’ moments at home with us too. We love to see what you are getting up to outside of school such as; special visits, clubs/swimming lessons/dance lessons or moments where your child has achieved something independently for the first time.

Well done Reception for another super week. You all continue to ‘wow’ us daily and we are all so proud of you! Keep up the fabulous work! Have a lovely weekend and well-earned rest. We will see you next week for another week of learning and Christmas fun – woop woop!

26th November 2021

Well done Reception for another super week, not long now until we start all things Christmas related – we can feel the excitement building as we see some signs that Christmas is coming around School! We had a wonderful start to the week with an assembly with Reverend Dave on Monday introducing the start of advent and reading a story. Reception also had great fun in their PE session and after school club this week developing their core muscles.

In Phonics the children have learnt the tricky word ‘goand we have also been learning how to say, hear, write and recognise the sounds r, h and b. The children have practised writing these letters in their books, in paint and on whiteboards and chalkboards. They have also been thinking and listening really carefully for words in stories or spotting words in the environment that begin with these sounds.

In Maths the children have explored the number 5. They have practised counting, making, subitising (looking at a group of objects and recognising how many there are without counting) and recognising the digit 5. We have also explored showing the number in many ways (representations), including on a dice, with Numicon, counting out the given number of objects, on a domino or with pictures or drawings etc. They have also had a go at finding one more and one less than a number practically with objects or on a number line. We will continue to explore partitioning 5 next week and supporting the children in developing their skills to recall the pairs of numbers that add together to make 5 (number bonds). The children will also be learning about patterns next week and will learn to copy a repeating pattern, continue a pattern and make their own

As part of PSHE and our 3D Curriculum theme of ‘friendship’, we have continued our learning about our emotions and how we can help ourselves and our friends with our different feelings. The children are becoming familiar with self-regulating their emotions throughout the school day and talking about ways they can help themselves and others when they are feeling calm, happy, sad or angry. The children have shown confidence to share their feelings during class circle times and have identified when they have experienced the different emotions and what strategies have helped them. We have loved relating each emotion to the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and using the self-regulation area in the classroom, such as trying out the different breathing exercises or having some quiet thinking time with the ‘ooze tube’ and pretty lights! We have also explored showing different emotions using facial expressions, making playdough faces and drawing and painting our own feelings monsters! We have discussed what each emotion looks and feels like and recognising when someone is feeling this way and how we can help them and ourselves.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to print this weeks Reception homework due to technical difficulties with our school printer. We hope to have the supporting worksheets with you as soon as possible. However, Miss Goodman has provided the weekly newsletter in your child’s homework folder with some suggested activities you could do this weekend. Miss Peters has changed your child’s reading books and there are also some words to practise for our Christmas performance. Thank you for all your continued support.

Well done Reception, we are all so proud of you! Have a lovely weekend and well-earned rest. We will see you next week for another week of learning and fun and starting to get into the Christmas spirit!

19th November 2021

Happy Friday Reception! Wow! What a fantastic week!

In Phonics the children have learnt the tricky words ‘the’ and ‘no’. We have also been learning how to say, hear and recognise the sound and write the digraph (2 letters, 1 sound) ck and the sounds e and u. In Talk 4 Writing we have been innovating (changing) the story ‘Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?’ The children have been fantastic at changing the colours and animals in the story to make it their own. Their teachers have been so proud of them for their amazing story telling skills. The children have loved painting pictures of their new characters and mixing colours to create new colours for their chosen animal. We’ve had some brilliant ideas such as; red cats, rainbow peacocks, orange dolphins and even a green sea cucumber!!  I wonder if they can tell you their changed version of the story?

In Maths the children have explored finding one more and one fewer and partitioning the number 4 to find all the different number bonds that add up to 4. We have also been learning about 4 sided shapes and counting the sides and corners. We have been looking at squares and rectangles and discussing how we know if a shape is a square or a rectangle, thinking carefully if the sides are all the same length or if they have some short sides and some long sides.

As part of our 3D Curriculum and National Antibullying Week, we have been thinking about our whole school theme of ‘friendship’. We have enjoyed sharing ideas of how we can be a kind and helpful friend and member of our school and wider community. On Monday we enjoyed wearing our odd socks to celebrate everyone’s differences and what makes us special. We have been learning about our emotions and how we can help ourselves and our friends with our different feelings. The children are becoming familiar with self-regulating their emotions throughout the school day and talking about ways they can help themselves when they are feeling sad or angry. The children have been exploring our self-regulation area in the classroom and using strategies to feel calm such as; different breathing exercises, reading stories, counting to 10 and using a calming reflection bottle for some quiet thinking time. We have loved reading the story ‘The Colour Monster’ and enjoyed circle times as a class to discuss the feeling of happiness and talking about when we feel happy. We have also explored showing different emotions using facial expressions and discussing what each feeling looks like and recognising when someone is feeling this way and how we can help them.

We’ve had a fabulous spotty end to the week today as we have learnt about other important special events taking place this week such as Children in Need and dressing up as Pudsey Bear in our spots! We have talked about helping others and raising money for charity. Thank you everyone for your very kind donations towards a fantastic charity that supports many children and families across the country. Pudsey Bear will be extremely grateful for GOPA’s donations!

Thank you for all your continued support with your child’s learning.

Have a fabulous weekend and we will see you next week for lots more learning and fun - Happy weekend everyone!!

Well done Reception for a fantastic first week back! You have all settled back into school so well and it has been wonderful to see your lovely smiling faces again!

We had lots of fun this week sharing our half term holiday news. We all enjoyed hearing about each other's Halloween and Autumn activities over half term and looking at each other's photos on Evidence Me. You all tried really hard to draw a picture and do some independent writing about your holiday. Miss Goodman was super impressed that lots of you could hear some initial sounds in your writing! We have also been thinking about our 3D Curriculum theme of 'friendship' and the children were very busy icing and decorating some friendship cookies for their friends. They looked delicious!

We have loved learning about Diwali and Bonfire Night this week and talking about the different ways we can celebrate these special events. The children had great fun in our DT room, making and baking their own Diva lamps for Diwali. The children have been busy decorating the diva lamps and are very proud of their finished creations. They will be taking these home this weekend to light in their homes to celebrate Diwali, the festival of light.
We have learnt the sounds 'g' and 'o' in Phonics and introduced the tricky word 'I'. We have been partitioning 3 in Maths and learning about triangles - we loved going on a triangle hunt around school! I wonder if you can spot any triangles when you are at home or out and about this weekend?

We have had a fabulous end to our week today with Mrs Hall teaching us some chair yoga to strengthen our core muscles and we are now feeling very relaxed and ready for the weekend!

Well done for a super first week of term 2 Reception, give yourselves a firework clap!
Have a fantastic weekend, we hope you can enjoy some fireworks.
Keep safe and we will look forward to seeing you on Monday!

Happy Half Term Reception - We did it!!! Well done for an amazing first term at school! You have 'wowed' us every week with how well you have settled into your new school, making friendships and always trying your best in your learning. What super stars you all are! ?

We've had a fantastic last week of term with lots of Autumn and Halloween fun! We have particularly enjoyed developing our fine motor skills for writing by hammering wooden pegs into pumpkins! We have also enjoyed creating lots of Autumn pictures and we had great fun exploring the oozy green Halloween jelly and 'potion' making in the water tray! We even found some cheeky minibeasts had appeared in our potions! We have been learning the Incy Wincy Spider rhyme and we had some super ideas of how the rhyme could be changed eg: Incy Wincy ladybird climbed up a water slide! Can you sing your new rhyme to your family and show them the actions too? We have been busy learning lots of our sounds in Phonics, learning to write each letter and sorting objects with the initial sounds. This week we have been exploring the number 3 in Maths and finding one more and one fewer.

The children are excited to be taking home some homework this weekend to practise saying and writing the sounds we have taught. Can you practise hearing these sounds and writing them down? Maybe you could go on a sound hunt or practise writing the sounds in paint or shaving foam!

Well done for a brilliant week everybody!

We hope you have a wonderful half term and we will look forward to seeing you back at school after the break.

15th October 2021

What a super week full of so much fabulous learning! We've had great fun learning all about the number 2 in Maths, finding one more and fewer and beginning to explore partitioning two and finding the two parts that add together to make the whole number. We've had great fun learning the Jolly Phonics tunes for our first set of sounds. See if you can show your adult the sounds we have learnt this week and the actions to go with them. Can you go on a sound hunt this weekend and find some things that start with the sounds 's', 'a', 't', 'p'? We would love to see photos of your sound hunts!

We have also been very busy this week learning the Humpty Dumpty rhyme and we were so imaginative with changing the story. Some of us decided Humpty Dumpty should sit on a pumpkin, not a wall!! We have loved creating our own story maps too and 'wowing' our teachers with our super story telling skills.

We've had an amazing Friday today, finished off with an exciting trip to Forest School to find some signs of Autumn. Can you collect some leaves, twigs or conkers over the weekend? I wonder how many you can find and count?

Well done for another brilliant week Reception, you are all such superstars and we are all so proud of you - Keep it up!

Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday!
