9th December

We had a very ‘jolly’ week at Pre-School! We have continued to read our story ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’. We were also very busy writing letters to Santa and drawing pictures of what we would like! We then went for a walk around school to find the post-box so we could post them to the North Pole! The postman picked them up this morning. We have also continued to do lots of letter writing in our play and used stickers and envelopes when we were finished!

We have been doing lots of Christmas colouring and some of us decorated our pictures with the paint dabbers! We had a choice of Santa, elf, bauble, Christmas tree or a reindeer to decorate! Some of us also decorated a Christmas card for our families!

We also made salt dough decorations. We carefully rolled out the dough and chose the shape we wanted. After our teachers cooked it in the oven, we decorated them with paint and sparkles. We hope they look lovely on your Christmas trees at home!

We also helped our teachers decorate the classroom to make it festive. We put up tinsel and decorated a pretend tree. We all coloured in a bauble and stuck it onto the tree, which looked lovely!

We have been working really hard practising our singing for our Christmas performance next week! We can’t wait for you all to see us in our costumes. There is no doubt we’re going to sparkle and shine!

What a busy, busy week! We hope you have a good weekend and we can’t wait to see you next week for another week of festive fun!

5th December

Another super week this week at Pre-School. We started our new story ‘The Jolly Christmas Postman’. We met lots of characters we already know in the story like the big bad wolf, Goldilocks and the Gingerbread man. We also saw Santa in his workshop too! Our role play area has turned into a Post Office so we have been weighing parcels and writing letters and Christmas cards to post in our post box. We have also enjoyed wearing the Christmas hats and glasses that Miss.Underdown brought in for us. On Wednesday Mrs.Hall came into Pre-School with a letter from the Jolly Postman. It was a letter from the Big Good Wolf. He wanted to know a new game he could play with his friends. We thought he might like to play what’s the time Mr Wolf but instead of dinner time he could say play time now that he is a good wolf. So, we all went to the studio for a game of what’s the time Mr Wolf? The Wolf even came to join in too!

We wanted to decorate our room so the children have been making paper chains and decorating baubles and snowflakes to put around the classroom.

For forest school this week we made ‘helicopters’ with Miss. Peters. We absolutely loved doing this activity. We threw our helicopters up in the air and watched them spin as they fell back to the ground.

We have been practicing very hard for our Christmas performance. We can’t wait to show our families our amazing play and the hard work we have put in to learn the songs.

See you all next week for another fantastic week.

25th November

Well Done, Pre-School, you have all had an amazing week! We have had lots of fun getting stuck into all our activities and have particularly enjoyed our focus-story ‘It was a Cold, Dark Night’. The children have been remembering the story very well, with just some little pictures to help them. Some children have taken their learning a little further and innovated their own story, using story maps. We have been SO impressed with your efforts in your Talk 4 Writing sessions, Pre-School - keep up the great work! We have also been making lots of paper chains ready to decorate our room for next week because it’s only 30days until Santa is here!

We have also been exploring colour mixing with different coloured paint to see what colours could be created. It was very messy but we certainly had lots of fun!

During their Forest School session, the children enjoyed making bird feeders with their teachers and Miss. Peters, who explained why it is important to use bird feeders in the winter months. The children's finished feeders are now in the tree, ready for the birds!

Have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

18th November

Wow, Pre-School! We have had another brilliant week! We have been talking about being kind to our friends and taking part in other 'kind' activities in support of anti-bullying week. Even though we talk about using our kind hands every day, it was important that we developed our understanding of the reasons why it is important. We read a story about kindness and the children told us lots of ways we can be kind to our friends!

We started a brand-new story this week called ‘A Cold Dark Night’, which was all about animals who come out at night! The children told us all about the animals they knew and where they live. We did a matching activity during our carpet time and the children helped us pair the animal pictures to their habitats!

We have also taken part in road safety awareness this week. The children loved taking part in our pretend road activity on the playground! Our word of the week has been ‘safety’ and we spoke about all the ways we can keep safe! Lots of the children said they keep safe by putting on their helmet and knee pads when riding their bike or scooter to Pre-School! We went out onto the playground and Miss Underdown drew us a road and we practised how to cross, it’s important to, STOP, LOOK and LISTEN!

The children have really enjoyed dressing up in our role-play area this week; we've seen lots of princesses and even a Stick Man! We also really enjoyed playing with the Peppa Pig small world toys this week.

On Friday, we got to dress up to raise money for Children in Need. It was fantastic to see children wearing lots of spots, Pudsey ears and anything else they chose! We decorated Pudsey biscuits and talked about why we raise money for Children in Need! Some of us even decorated Pudsey headbands!

Wow, what a jam-packed busy week you’ve had Pre-School! We hope you enjoy a rest at the weekend ready for next week!

8th November

Wow Pre-School, what a fantastic first week back after our week off! We loved hearing what everyone got up to and all the Halloween celebrating you did - it seems there were lots of witches, skeletons and pumpkins wandering around Great Oldbury on Monday!

As it was Bonfire Night on Saturday, we have had fun carrying out a few activities around this. We made firework pictures using cardboard tubes and straws, and dipping them into paint. We also decorated biscuits using red, green and purple food icing to make them look like fireworks. Some of us even added sprinkles! We ate them at afternoon snack time, and they were so yummy.

We have started a new book this week called 'Meg and Mog'. It's about a witch called Meg and her cat Mog who casts a spell that goes wrong. Some of the children can help join in with the story already and can say what they think is going to happen next. In our small world area are the characters from the story which some of the children have been using to engage in imaginative role play.

At Forest School on Tuesday, we learnt about colours and what happens if you mix them together. Miss. Peters also read 'Room on the Broom' to us, and we had lots of fun acting out the story.

Miss.Underdown brought in lots of hats which we loved trying on and pretending to be different characters. A scarecrow, a strawberry and a witch seemed to be our favourites.

Well Done for a great week back everyone!

1st November

Wow, Pre-School!

We have been very busy joining in with the final activities which reflect our Theme – ‘Marvellous Me’ - and enjoyed looking at all things Autumn! We’ve had lots of fun tree painting, making sourdough hedgehog bread and making Diwali lamps. When making our sourdough bread, we practised our cutting skills to create spikes and added some raisins for eyes and a nose. We have been learning a new song called 'I'm a Little Hedgehog' to the tune of 'I'm a Little Teapot', which the children seemed to really enjoy! We created some fantastic actions as we went along too. The changing weather has also been a big talking point amongst the children, who have been keen to show us their new wellies and coats!

The children have also been familiarising themselves with their new routine in the Pre-School classroom and have really enjoyed mixing with Reception at lunch time and break time. During the second half of the week, the children took part in a story telling activity, where the ‘Feelings Monster’ was used as a prop. As a group, the children were encouraged to create a story ‘on the spot’; we had a pirate on a ship at sea who was on a secret journey…but some of the children’s parents were flying on a plane overhead and spotted him on his journey! He never found secret treasure but made some lovely new friends on his adventures!

We have had so much fun!

17th October

Wow, Pre-School! We can’t believe we are nearing the end of our first term as Pre-School children! We are looking forward to seeing you next week for one more week! We have continued to read our story ‘We’re going on a Leaf Hunt’ and had lots of fun exploring Autumn. This has sparked lots of conversations about changes to the trees and our outside area! We have noticed many colourful leaves; red, orange, yellow, brown and green!

We have continued to enjoy our role play area, which has been used as a Doctor's surgery. We have also been using bandages and pretend plasters to help our friends better.

We made salt dough with Miss. Swift earlier this week. We cooked them and let them dry, and then the next day we decorated them with paint, choosing what colour we wanted to use. We then took home our decorations.

We have been using our imagination in our outside garden area, role playing with the equipment. We have been pretending to be sharks in the water! Our friends helped us build a bridge with planks so we could escape from the sharks! We have been continuing to enjoy our Forest School sessions on a Tuesday afternoon, and we can now tell Miss. Peters the rules and behavioural expectations when we use the site to help keep us safe! When in Forest School, we absolutely love doing digging, mud painting, playing with leaves in our tuff tray and exploring the mud kitchen!

Well done for another brilliant week, Pre-School! Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week!

7th October

Another fantastic week in Pre-School Class! We have started a new story this week called ‘We Are Going on a Leaf Hunt’. The children have all really engaged with the story and have been able to join in with telling the story. On Monday we went on a leaf hunt around school. We had a discussion about what we thought we would find on the leaf hunt, and we said a dragon, a gingerbread man, a squirrel, a worm, and of course, leaves! On the leaf hunt we found different coloured leaves, sticks, feathers and acorns! We then spoke about what we found.

At Forest School on Tuesday, we saw lots of acorns, conkers and pinecones which we used to make lots of yummy food in the mud kitchen. We also helped Miss. Peters build a “treehouse” and we all helped carry the big sticks.

Our role play area has turned into a doctor's surgery. We have lots of nurses, paramedics and doctors looking after the poorly children and animals and helping to make them feel better.

We used our fine motor skills to make amazing Autumn tree pictures. We used our fingers to put the colourful autumn leaves on our trees and turned our working wall into a forest full of the pictures we made.

Well done Pre-School for another super week!

23rd September

Pre-School Class have had another brilliant week settling into our new classroom! We have loved watching the children continue enjoying existing friendships as well as forming new ones.

We had our first Forest School session on Tuesday! We put our Forest School clothes on and explored the new outdoor area. We played with mud, saw bugs, did some digging and we even saw a frog! The children had a go at taking part in a fine motor activity which involved sorting and picking up acorns with tweezers, which they seemed to really enjoy! The children followed Miss. Peter's instructions very well and showed good understanding of the new rules.

We have been busy playing with play dough, painting with dabbers and making lots of leaf pictures! We really enjoy playing with the logos we have on our cabinet, which help us to start reading signs that we are familiar with.

Some of the children have taken part in a Maths sorting activity, involving pine cones, hedgehogs and acorns! The children really enjoyed putting them in order of biggest to smallest.

With the sad news of Her Majesty The Queen passing last week, we had a circle time with the children and chatted about her. The Pre-School children were really interested and enjoyed telling the teachers what they knew about The Queen! We spoke about where she lived and showed the children a picture of our new King. We then spent some time colouring in some pictures to take home, which were amazing!

Well Done Pre-School Class for another brilliant week!

9th September

What a fantastic first week we have had at pre school. A big welcome to all the new children and a welcome back to those joining us from nursery. We are so pleased with how well you have all settled in and how quickly you have got back into the Little Learners routine.

This week we have been getting to know each other and our teachers; Miss Wardrop, Miss Swift, and Miss Underdown. We have really loved exploring our new classroom and all the different toys in pre school. The green playdough has been a favourite, making lots of cookies, houses and animals. We have also been building towers with the Lego, doing shape puzzles and telling our teachers all about ourselves. A lot of the children’s responses to ‘what is your favourite food’ was chicken nuggets!

Please remember Tuesday afternoons 1:00-2:30 is forest school. If your child is in session, please can they bring appropriate clothing (coats, wellies, change of clothes) as we like to go out in all weathers.

We can’t wait to see you all next week for another great week at pre school!
